SIGN-IN
Sign-in will be at 7:00 am on Oct. 22. You will pick up your goodie bag and lunch bracelet at sign-in. Swimmers will also get a number and be body marked at sign-in.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
HALF MILE SWIM - 1 LOOP (MAP)
The course is a counterclockwise loop (marked by four buoys) that starts on the LEFT side of the Capitola Pier.
•The first buoy is straight out, participants will swim parallel to the pier, with the pier on right shoulder.
•From the first buoy to the second buoy, swimmers will swim almost parallel to the beach heading east.
•From the second buoy to the third buoy, swimmer will be heading back closer to the shore.
•From the third buoy to the fourth buoy, swimmers will swim parallel to the beach heading back to the pier and exit right next to the start.
Please keep the buoys on your left shoulder when turning to swim around it.
ONE MILE SWIM - 2 LOOPS(MAP)
The course is a counterclockwise loop (defined by four buoys) that starts on the LEFT side of the Capitola Pier.
•The first buoy is straight out, participants will swim parallel to the pier.
•From the first buoy to the second buoy, swimmers will swim almost parallel to the beach heading east.
•From the second buoy to the third buoy, swimmer will be heading back closer to the shore.
•From the third buoy to the fourth buoy, swimmers will swim parallel to the beach heading towards the pier.
Do not exit the water, repeat the loop and more time, then exit the water right next to the start.
Please keep the buoys on your left shoulder when turning to swim around it.
SIGN-IN AND RACE DAY REGISTRATION
EQUIPMENT
Use of fins, pull buoys, gloves or other swimming devices is prohibited. For beginners and advanced swimmers, wetsuits are recommended but not required to, help adjust to the water’s temperature and can improve buoyancy.
SAFETY RULES
Safety services are provided by the Santa Cruz City Beach Lifeguard Service and Santa Cruz Surf Life Saving Association. All contestants are required to wear a brightly colored swim cap. Caps will be provided. Cut-off time for both distances is 1 hour 30 minutes. No personal escorts are permitted. Insulated swim caps permitted, no other swim aids allowed. The expected water temperature is 60 degrees, wetsuits are permitted.
